When do we talk about being overtrained? When is it necessary to focus on recovery?
During exercise, the muscles are affected by microtrauma, which causes varying degrees
of inflammation in the body. This leads to an increased production of free radicals in the
body, which we can then protect ourselves against through nutrition.
The symptoms of being overtrained can occur during a badly planned training session, in the
middle of a race or even during a training season.
The most common physiological symptoms are, but are not exhaustive:
reduced performance
reduced ferritin in serum
reduced mineral content (Zn, Co, Mn, Cu, Fe, Se, Al)
increased urea concentration
delayed regeneration
reduced muscle strength
reduced max. power
coordination defects
reduced efficiency or amplitude of movement
reduced differentiation and correction ability
reduced ability to correct technical errors
Regardless of the onset of symptoms, recovery is the primary concern with increased exercise.
Increased exercise is not only for professional athletes.
For those who exercise regularly and intensively, in addition to fluid, protein and carbohydrate
supplementation, increased vitamin supplementation is also necessary.
The amount of this should be discussed with a sports doctor or sports dietician.
