What is a post covid? What are the

most common symptoms?

Post-COVID syndrome is a complex set of symptoms after COVID-19 infection, and is

collectively referred to as the late residual symptoms and damage that last for more than

four weeks after the onset of symptoms.

Patients may present with symptoms 4-6 weeks after the acute infection. During this period, the

most common symptoms are fatigue, shortness of breath or chest pain, concentration problems,

insomnia or nightmares. If symptoms persist for up to 12 weeks after the infection, the literature

suggests that this is known as long-COVID syndrome.

If a post-COVID screening confirms post-COVID syndrome, this is the beginning of a long

rehabilitation. Pulmonary rehabilitation includes breathing exercises to support diaphragm

function. Gradual introduction of physical activity with regular blood pressure and pulse

monitoring is recommended. Prolonged indigestion and diarrhoea may require dietary

rehabilitation. Increased vitamin supplementation is also necessary, which should be taken in the

form best utilised.
